The Challenge
To mitigate operational risk in the IT organization, the client’s senior leadership sought support in rationalizing their system portfolio and optimizing the tracking of system metadata. This initiative involved reconciling and rationalizing system lists into a master inventory, identifying critical system metadata to assess operational risk, and analyzing data storage and maintenance processes for a Configuration Management Data Base (CMDB) implementation plan. RGP delivered a rationalized system inventory, a system scorecard, and a CMDB transition plan with considerations for the service catalog and total cost of ownership, then supported the end-to-end implementation process.

What We Did
RGP deployed a team of subject matter experts and technology consultants to gather and reconcile disparate system lists and operational data, creating a rationalized and easily maintainable master system inventory. The team identified and analyzed system metadata necessary for assessing operational risk and developed a system scorecard to track system criticality, volatility, and other key metrics. Additionally, RGP created a transition plan to move from the current system portfolio management to a target state CMDB/ITOM platform, considering data maintenance, system owner attestations, dependencies, and a prioritized roadmap with a timeline.

Our Impact
RGP rationalized the system inventory, reducing operational risk, supporting CMDB/ITOM implementation, and fostering collaboration across key teams.
