The Challenge
Following its acquisition by another financial institution, the Client aimed to capture savings and integrate its technology portfolio through application retirement and consolidation. To achieve this, the Client sought external expertise to design and implement an application decommissioning program. RGP provided guidance in defining a clear vision for the target state application landscape to support the post-merger operating model, addressing challenges such as limited capacity for management and governance, inadequate financial tracking for total cost of ownership, and a bifurcated application inventory database.

What We Did
RGP deployed a team led by the former Credit Suisse Capital Markets CIO and an experienced technology consultant to assess the Client’s decommissioning progress and develop strategies to advance the program. By utilizing the Client’s application inventory, coordinating with business and technology stakeholders, and leveraging RGP’s Application Decommissioning Playbook, the team defined cutover and decommissioning strategies along with integration plans. Prioritization of the book of work was based on system dependencies, data retention standards, and reporting requirements. Additionally, RGP initiated efforts to enhance visibility into secondary application decommissioning progress by designing a view focused on end-to-end decommissioning milestones.

Our Impact
RGP developed a comprehensive application inventory, drove financial savings through decommissioning strategies, and ensured alignment on key application timelines and data retention needs.
