About This Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Accounting professional to provide accounting guidance and support for complex business transactions, new accounting standards, and financial reporting matters. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate accounting implications of strategic initiatives, new product introduction, customer and vendor contracts, cloud computing arrangements, and other complex transactions. The successful candidate will develop accounting policies, document technical conclusions, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong business acumen, sound professional judgment, and the ability to translate complex accounting guidance into practical, scalable accounting processes.
What You Will Work On
- Research, analyze, and document accounting conclusions for complex transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Evaluate customer contracts and commercial arrangements under ASC 606, including identification of performance obligations, transaction price allocation, variable consideration, standalone selling price (SSP), contract modifications, principal versus agent considerations, and revenue recognition.
- Assess accounting implications of cloud computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) arrangements, including implementation costs, hosting arrangements, capitalization guidance, and related accounting under applicable U.S. GAAP.
- Analyze contracts and business arrangements to determine appropriate accounting treatment across a variety of technical accounting areas, including revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, financial instruments, equity transactions, and other complex accounting topics.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive technical accounting memoranda supporting accounting positions, significant estimates, and key judgments.
- Assess the accounting impact of new products, commercial arrangements, strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and organizational changes.
- Interpret and implement new accounting standards, including evaluating impacts on financial reporting, policies, processes, systems, and internal controls.
- Develop, maintain, and update accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and consistent application across the organization.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Sales, Procurement, FP&A, Tax, Operations, and other stakeholders to provide accounting guidance during contract negotiations and business decision-making.
- Support quarterly and annual financial reporting by addressing technical accounting matters, preparing disclosures, and assisting with SEC reporting requirements, as applicable.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors by providing technical analyses, supporting documentation, and responses to audit inquiries.
- Evaluate accounting estimates, materiality considerations, and significant judgments affecting the financial statements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and operational efficiencies while maintaining compliance.
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and regulatory developments and communicate potential impacts to management.
- Support SOX compliance and internal control initiatives related to technical accounting and financial reporting
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in technical accounting, public accounting, accounting advisory, or financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including significant experience applying Revenue Recognition ASC 606 and other complex accounting guidance.
- Experience evaluating cloud computing arrangements, SaaS implementation costs, or technology-related accounting issues.
- Demonstrated experience researching and applying accounting guidance to complex business transactions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex accounting matters to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and influence business decisions through accounting expertise.
- Proficiency in ERP (Oracle, SAP) and revenue recognition tools (e.g., NetSuite, Zuora, Salesforce CPQ, RevPro).
- Familiarity with SOX compliance, internal controls, and external audit processes.
- Experience implementing new accounting standards, system implementations, or finance transformation initiatives.
