Reinsurance Accounting Consultant

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant with a strong background in Reinsurance to join our team. This role is critical in managing accounting operations for both Property and Casualty Facultative divisions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in reinsurance accounting processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to maintain effective client relationships.

Work Location: Remote but willing and able to primarily work east coast business hours

Duration: 6+ months, likely to extend

Pay Rate Range: $65/hr-$75/hr

What you will work on

  • Perform all aspects of accounting for individual risk and program business.
  • Oversee monthly billing and daily cash application processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and assistant underwriters to resolve collection issues and clear overdue balances promptly.
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly closing reports and quarterly underwriting results.
  • Analyze and process monthly/quarterly premium bordereaux for program business.
  • Reconcile invoicing to supporting documentation and confirm premium calculations align with contractual terms.
  • Review program contract setup for accuracy in the reinsurance system.
  • Follow up on missing accounts, overdue balances, and unapplied cash amounts.
  • Oversee billing for new certificates/endorsements to direct clients and brokers.
  • Manage daily vouchering and application of cash receipts and disbursements.
  • •Support preparation of various management reports and Assumed & Ceded Schedule F for the Annual Statement.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal policies.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on reinsurance or insurance industry.
  • Solid understanding of reinsurance accounting principles, including premium and loss bordereaux.
  • Proficiency in reinsurance systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
