About This Role

We are seeking a highly strategic and hands-on experienced Inventory Accounting Manager to lead and strengthen a critical area of the finance organization. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert for inventory accounting, costing methodology, inventory valuation, and cost analysis while partnering closely with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Technology teams.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in inventory accounting within a retail, consumer products, manufacturing, or distribution environment and can effectively navigate complex inventory environments, large data sets, global supply chains, and system optimization opportunities. This is an opportunity to build structure, improve processes, and provide executive-level visibility into inventory performance and profitability.

Work Location: 3 days on-site near Downtown Los Angeles, CA, 2 days remote.

Duration: 4-month contract with potential to extend or convert to full-time.

Pay Rate Range: $80/hr-$90/hr

What You Will Work On

  • Lead all aspects of inventory accounting, ensuring accurate inventory valuation and financial reporting.
  • Own inventory costing methodologies, including standard costing, weighted average costing, and inventory reserve calculations.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities impacting margins and profitability.
  • Develop reporting and dashboards that improve visibility into inventory movements, cost drivers, and operational performance.
  • Identify and implement system enhancements and process automation opportunities to reduce manual Excel-based workflows.
  • Investigate inventory variances, SKU discrepancies, shrinkage, obsolescence, and reserve requirements.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities associated with inventory and cost accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and inventory-related accounting policies.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and business impacts to senior leadership in a clear and actionable manner.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, or inventory finance leadership roles.
  • Deep expertise in inventory accounting principles, inventory valuation, and costing methodologies.
  • Experience supporting retail, consumer products, manufacturing, distribution, or other inventory-intensive organizations.
  • Strong understanding of global supply chain operations and their impact on inventory accounting and costing.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large, complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and system optimization initiatives.
  • Strong communication and leadership capabilities with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
