This installment of our “Virtually Yours” missives is from Chief People Officer, Katy Conway. She's working around the clock to ensure the humans of RGP are staying safe and able to be productive. She sent an inspiring note of how far we’ve come and how we’ll grow stronger and more resilient.
I hope this finds you and your loved ones well. This week with the annual celebrations of Passover, Easter or just the arrival of a new season, I’ve paused to reflect upon how different things are than this time last year.
Even in such surreal times, I’m grateful for not feeling alone on this journey.
I’m thankful for our colleagues and for our encouraging, supportive and optimistic culture (the things I’ve learned on Zoom…). I wonder, along with the rest of the world, when will things return to normal … and what will that look like.
McKinsey published an article outlining five stages on the path to the next normal. I found it helpful in terms of remembering that this pandemic is a cycle.:
Address immediate challenges that COVID-19 represents to our workforce, clients, technology and business partners.
Address near-term challenges and broader resiliency issues during virus-related shutdowns and economic knock-on effects.
Create a detailed plan to return the business to scale quickly as the COVID-19 situation evolves and knock-on effects become clearer.
Reimagine next normal: what a discontinuous shift looks like and implications for how institutions should reinvent.
Be clear about how regulatory and competitive environments in our industry may shift.
We’ve covered a lot of ground in the Resolve and Resilience phases. We have enacted social-distancing and no-travel measures at work, rapidly deployed technology, made a major shift to working from home, implemented COVID-related support, developed a COVID-related business development plan, and increased our communications. We work differently now, and we’ve made it through these cycles together.
I’m encouraged to think about the latter three stages because they are in our DNA. We excel at planning, adapting, reimagining and executing. It reminds me that there will be opportunities through this situation to help ourselves and our clients emerge stronger.
I hope this helps you to look forward and find the opportunity that inevitably emerges from difficult circumstances. Thank you for all you’re doing for RGP, for your families, and your communities. Stay safe!
