In a wide-ranging Q&A in HR.com’s CHRO Corner, RGP’s Chief People Officer (CPO) Katy Conway, describes her path to the company’s top HR post, details what she sees as tomorrow’s top workforce and workplace trends, and offers personal advice to rising HR professionals.

Although she didn’t do her undergraduate work in HR or business, Conway says she was able to use her liberal arts BA in English and psychology to great effect by “raising my hand more often and leaning into projects and roles” rising through the ranks during her 25-year career.

Her view on the workforce of tomorrow? Winning organizations will be those “that can rally their teams around a values-centered culture that offers membership, community and access to new skill acquisition. That will mean flexible and agile policies that attract, motivate and upskill diverse talent pools.”

She also offers some personal advice: “Trust your gut—it’s often right. And balance that with the understanding that there is something to learn in every situation.”
